Consecrations

According to Jewish law, a stone must be placed over a grave to prevent its desecration and to ensure the person buried there is remembered. As there is no fixed time for hakamat matzevah, the raising up of the stone, different communities follow various customs.

In Australia, the laying of the stone and consecration ceremony are usually arranged for the eleventh month after a death.
